Sawtooth core bits have shaped teeth formed from tungsten carbide matrix, reinforced with natural carbonado and West African type diamonds. Added protection is provided by T.C. inserts set into the diamond gauge.

These bits are very popular for soil investigation and geotechnical work. Their aggressive profile makes it possible to achieve very high rates of penetration at low rotation speeds. They give excellent results coring in sandstone, coal, clays, limestone and siltstone.

Slotted face discharge ports are present on the face of the bit which are designed to produce maximum cooling and core protection when drilling with air. However, these bits may also be used with internal flush with water or mud flush.

Sawtooth bits function in much the same way as tungsten carbide insert bits but with a much superior wear resistance.
