DIAMOND IMPREGNATED CORE BITSImpregnated core bits can drill a broad range of geological formations from the softest to the hardest rock. They are manufactured with very small, high quality synthetic diamonds mixed evenly through a metal matrix. During drilling the matrix wears away evenly resulting in continuous exposure of new sharp diamond points. This gives an efficient and stable cutting action throughout the life of the bit. All bits have extra T.C. and diamond gauge protection. The optimum diamond size, concentration and matrix composition is dependant on the hardness and abrasiveness of the formation to be drilled.
MATRIX TYPE GVH. (Brown) Very hard matrix. Abrasive resistant. Requires high torque and thrust.
MATRIX TYPE GH. (Blue) Hard Matrix. Good performing matrix giving increased penetration rates in abrasive and medium fractured conditions.
MATRIX TYPE GM. (Green) Medium to soft matrix. General purpose matrix. Free cutting giving good penetration rate in low abrasive medium to fine grained conditions.
MATRIX TYPE GS. (Red) Soft matrix. Free cutting giving good penetration in very hard fine grained conditions which tend to polish matrix.

FACE PROFILES Thin kerf bits ( e.g. TT, T2, and T6 range ) are manufactured in flat profile and thicker kerf bits ( e.g. DCDMA and Wireline ) in W profile.
WATERWAYS The number and depth of waterways is optimised for the formations to be drilled.
DEPTH OF IMPREGNATION (D.I.) Core bits are manufactured in two standard depths of impregnation : 4 mm and 6 mm ( other depth can be supplied to order. The deep matrix is more cost effective when drilling medium to hard non abrasive formations. The shallower matrix is more suited to highly abrasive or fractured formations where large wear of the bit diameter is anticipated and a deep matrix cannot be fully utilised. |
